Our first spotlight is on Jenn Streicher, founder of SCOUT, which is in upstate New York. She opened SCOUT in 2021, bringing 20+ years of experience in the beauty industry as one of the most sought-after makeup artists to the small town of Bedford, NY. She's created a thoughtfully curated space filled with brands she herself has used and believes in, with a focus on clean beauty & often women-owned brands. Check out our chat with Jenn below:
Tell us a little bit about your background in beauty.
I started off working in beauty straight out of high school at a beauty counter!
What led to the opening of Scout?
I moved out of Los Angeles during the pandemic to a small town in New York called Bedford. I quickly discovered that there was no shop to buy my favorite beauty brands, so I opened one!!! Best life decision.
What kinds of brands & products do you look for when curating your assortment?
Well, first, I have to use it and love it!! And second, I try to pick all "clean" brands when curating inventory. Not every single one is totally "clean" but its always something I swear by.
Why Pound Ridge? What's the best thing about living there?
Pound Ridge (where Scout is located) is a neighboring hamlet to Bedford. I opened it there because I love the street it is on. There are sidewalks on both sides of the street and it is the most picturesque lil' town.
What drew you to Tenoverten?
My sisters and I worked with Tenoverten years ago when we first opened STRIIIKE (and I believe Tenoverten was opening their first LA store). I have been a fan ever since.
What's your daily beauty routine?
I really don't have a daily beauty routine. I am always trying new products and then I also change what I use depending on how my skin is feeling. Its safe to say that I use a serum, moisturizer and SPF everyday.
What beauty products do you never leave the house without?
Lipstick!
